Hydel Engineering and Construction Limited (HECL) successfully
completed the repair and rehabilitation of Tedzani I
and II power stations in August 2009 and handed over
the final two all machines to ESCOM for commercial operation.
The development is the completion of the rehabilitation
works of Tedzani I and II which has restored the lost
40 megawatts (MW) to the power supply grid, translating
into a total available capacity of 278MW against a total
demand of about 300MW.
However, there are some defects that need to be cleared
by the contractor by November 2009.
Availability of Tedzani I and II will help reduce the
load shedding hours.
The power stations got damaged in 2001 because of excessive
weeds that accumulated on the Bell mouth fine screens.
