SPORTS
ESCOM in recognition of the valuable contribution made by the public and its customers runs a very active social responsibility programme. ESCOM believes that it ought to give back something in developmental terms to the country.

Apart from the many spheres of programmes that ESCOM runs, the Corporation fully sponsors two sports teams. These are ESCOM United which competes in the national football Super League and ESCOM Sisters which competes in the Blantyre and Districts Netball League (BDNL)

FOOTBALL
ESCOM United has had its fair share of success in the domestic soccer scene in the country. It has won cup competitions and provided stiff competition to other teams. The highlight of which culminated in the team winning the TNM sponsored 2007/08 Super League title for the first time in its history.

The team also runs a very successful youth team which acts as a nursery for the senior team. To highlight the success of this youth programme and abundance of talent, the youth team also came on top of the Blantyre and Districts premier league in the same 2007/08 season.
Currently the team provides the bulk of players for the national team.

The team has got 30 registered players and is ably led by the able hands of celebrated former Malawi national team captain, Young Chimodzi as coach. The Executive Committee is chaired by the Construction Manager, Charles Twalibu.

NETBALL
While football has been sponsored for a long time, the netball team is relatively new. But in the few years (about 4 years) since ESCOM ventured into netball sponsoring the team has grown in stature and caused shockwaves among the so called big teams and the netball loving country.

The team has in fact been able to provide an alternative to the previous dominance by MTL Queens and Tigresses. The upcoming team which is coached by Griffin Saenda who also happens to be the national team coach has supplied many pundits and exceeded expectations. The team has got 15 registered players and is chaired seasoned sports administrator Mary Makunganya

The team came out on position number three in the just ended BDNL league and expects to build on its success to actively challenge for the championship in the yet to start 2008/09 season.

ESCOM will for the foreseeable future continue to sponsor sports in the country and is looking increasing the number of disciplines it sponsors.
